Professional Biography

I am a Chartered Building Engineer and Chartered Environmental Scientist with 40 years' experience.

Holding both these titles was a specific pathway chosen to holistically combine building engineering with environmental science. This provides clients with a unique advantage when applying the principles of building pathology, forensic diagnostics, finding solutions and writing technical reports.

I am an undergraduate in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Engineering, Behavioural Sciences and a post graduate in Climate Change & Sustainable Building Engineering from DMU. All achieved via distance learning higher education courses whilst working full time.

I hold senior professional credentials, which include Fellowship of The Chartered Association of Building Engineers, Fellowship of The Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering and Full Membership of The Institution of Environmental Sciences.

My journey in the built environment began in the mid-1980s with a practical, hands-on foundation that remains central to my consulting philosophy today. I completed a rigorous, time-served JIB registered apprenticeship, attending college on day release while gaining invaluable on-site experience diagnosing system breakdowns, managing maintenance, and executing complex mechanical and electrical installations. This early trade experience instilled a deep, physical understanding of how building systems operate in reality.

Following a proud period of military service in the British Army within The Parachute Regiment (1Para), I returned to civilian engineering. I progressed rapidly from hands-on engineering roles into engineering management, MEP project management, eventually taking responsibility as the Head of Projects for a major corporate bank in the City of London.

In 2002, I established my independent consultancy practice. Over the last two decades, I have provided specialist technical scrutiny, surveys, and diagnostics for mainstream consultancies, local authorities, and prominent property developers in the heart of London, spanning everything from pioneering eco-buildings to prestigious commercial developments.

To complement this deep operational background, I have continually expanded my academic and technical expertise through advanced training in expert witness practice, energy assessments, and environmental auditing. Today, this unique trajectory—combining early trade craft, military precision, corporate leadership, and high-level chartered credentials—allows me to deliver unparalleled technical insight with a highly practical, down-to-earth perspective.

I have appeared on TV and radio, including BBC Watchdog and Rogue Traders as an Expert dealing with building defects, bad workmanship and 'scam' products.
